What is the difference between Personal and Commercial License?

Commercial License Type
"Individual User License", "Site License", "Global License" and "Extended Global License" are considered to be commercial licenses. This is the standard licensing option for organisations and business entities (including educational and non-profit organizations). Licenses are purchased by the company and can be used by persons/employees within. Contact us for non-profit and educational organisations for a discount.

Personal License Type
“Personal License (non-commercial)” is considered to be a personal license. This is a discounted option for a private individual who purchases a license with their own funds, and solely for their own use. Examples would be for learning purposes or managing a tryout-lab at home.


Shareware License Type
By default after the initial installation, Royal Server has installed a "Standard Free License (3 Pack)". This type includes the management of 3 servers. If more servers are needed for an evaluation of Royal Server, please contact us and we will gladly issue an evaluation license.



What is the difference between the License Types?


Personal License (non-commercial)
This license is the most affordable way to get Royal Server. It is a personalised license, bound to the name of the licensee and can only be used by this person. Additionally it only allows one installation of Royal Server. If you want to manage your personal IT infrastructure or test lab at home this is the perfect license for you. The Document Store component can only host one document, and our commercial licenses can have an unlimited amount of documents.

Individual User License
This license is intended for single IT warriors or small teams who manage IT infrastructures for multiple environments/companies. It allows unlimited installations of Royal Server but these installations can only be used by the licensees. For small IT teams it is also a good option (e.g. 3 Individual User Licenses for a team of 3 sysadmins)

Site License
This license allows you to install Royal Server multiple times in one site (single office) and these installations can be used from all employees working at that site (office).

Global License
This license allows you to install Royal Server multiple times in many sites and these installations can be used from all employees working at that sites.

Extended Global License
This license type is basically the same as the Global License but includes 3 years of software maintenance (all other licenses include 1 year of software maintenance)

If you are a self-employed IT professional, managing the IT infrastructure for many companies:
The individual user license allows you to access as many Royal Server installations and manage as many entities as you want regardless where the Royal Server installations or the managed entities reside. To provide Royal Server access for more users, additional individual user licenses can be purchased (volume license discounts are available).

If you are a team of IT professionals in a company managing the IT infrastructure:
If your company is located in one location, go for the Site License. If you have multiple locations, consider the Global License.


Additional Questions about Licensing Royal Server


Can a company purchase a Personal License?
No. A Personal License is only available for private individuals who purchase the license with their own funds, and solely for their own use.

Can I use my Personal License in a company environment?
No. Use our commercial license offerings for organisations and business entities.

Is a Personal License limited in features compared to the other license types?
It has the same featureset as the commercial licenses allow, except that a personal license can only be installed on one Royal Server and used by one private individual (licensee). Also, the Document Store component can only work with one document.

Can I use my Personal License at work and at home?
No. A Personal License can only be used by private individuals.

Are Royal TS/X Client Licenses included in Royal Server?
No. Royal Server and Royal TS/X clients are licensed separately.

How long is my License Valid?
Royal Server is licensed via a perpetual license for the version purchased, with no annual or recurring fees required and includes a Software Maintenance.

For example: If you purchase a license for Royal Server, all minor version (Royal Server V2.1, V2.2, etc. are covered by the license. Once, the next major version (V3) is released, a new license key is required. Each license includes a "software maintenance" (see below) and users with active software maintenance will get the license key for the next major version for free.

What is "Software Maintenance"?
Each Royal Server license except the Extended Global License includes a 1 year software maintenance plan. With software maintenance you have access to the latest version of the product (including  major version releases). This means you are entitled to upgrade Royal Server to any newer version for 1 year after the purchase free of charge. Priority email support is also included in the software maintenance plan. The "Extended Global License" includes 3 years of software maintenance. So each Royal Server license includes at least a 1 year Software Maintenance.

What happens when my Software Maintenance Plan Expires?
First of all, you can still use Royal Server (see above: "How long is my license valid?"). You will still have access to minor product updates for the version you purchased or the version you got during the software maintenance. Royal Server continues to work and you can use it as long as you wish.


What happens if I want to upgrade to the latest major version but software maintenance expired?
In case you did not extend your maintenance and wish to upgrade to the latest version, you will need to purchase full price licenses for the new version.

How can I extend my Software Maintenance Plan?
Expired software maintenance can be extended by purchasing new licenses at a reduced price. Customers with expired software maintenance will automatically receive an email with a discount coupon code to extend software maintenance.
After you receive the discount coupon code, place a new order and enter the coupon code on the shopping cart page (after clicking the Buy Now button). If you didn't get the coupon code, please contact us and include your original order information.


Maintenance extension is a limited time offer. The provided coupon code will be valid for two months after the software maintenance expired.


What are the benefits of extending my software maintenance plan using the discount coupon code?

  • You do not need to keep multiple (previous) license keys to extend maintenance. Just enter the discount coupon code on the shopping cart page (after clicking the Buy Now button).
  • You do not need to enter multiple license keys in Royal Server to unlock it.
  • The discount is applied to all licenses of your order. This means you can get as many licenses at a reduced price as you need.
  • You can even switch licenses at a reduced price to an Unlimited license in case this makes more sense to you now.



Questions about ordering Royal Server


How is the product shipped?
Royal Server is delivered electronically. Once you have completed the order form, an email with the license information is sent. Ensure your email client is configured to receive emails from the shareit.com, code4ward.net, royal-server.com, royaltsx.com and royalts.com domains.

How can I get a Quote?

If you need a written quote, follow these steps:

  1. Head to our "Buy" page.
  2. Select the desired license and platform and click on the corresponding "Buy Now" link.
  3. You will then be forwarded to the order page of our distributor (share-it).
  4. Fill out the order form (make sure you correctly register the license to your company name if needed).
  5. At the end of the order form, instead of clicking the green "Buy Now" button, click on "Save as quote only".


Important:
"Save as quote only" means that the order you just entered has not been completed. It will be stored as a quote with the information you entered and will remain valid for 14 days.
To order products from this quote at a later time, it is important that you enter your login information identifying you as a MyCommerce ID. If you are a new customer, you can create your account now.
Using your login information, you can log into the Customer Service area, select "MyCommerce ID" and either accept the quote and complete the order, or delete the quote.



Can I place a Purchase Order?

To place a purchase order, follow these steps:

  1. Head to our "Buy" page.
  2. Select the desired license and platform and click on the corresponding "Buy Now" link.
  3. You will then be forwarded to the order page of our distributor (share-it).
  4. Fill out the order form (make sure you correctly register the license to your company name if needed).
  5. In the "Payment Option" area, select "Purchase Order" as "Payment type".
  6. Complete your order.
  7. Note: you need to upload a document (PDF file) in order to complete a purchase order. The PDF file should be a scan of a signed, written order containing the product ID, product name, and price using a company letterhead. You can find the product IDs on our Buy page.


Important:
A purchase order is not processed immediately. Each incoming purchase order will be reviewed by our sales team before it is approved. This is usually done within two business days.
